Jackson fears few things in life.  But one thing he hates is sleeping away from home or being the last one to fall asleep.  So needless to say, when his first over-night scout camp came around he protested and told us there was no way he was going. We talked about it for days. His scout  leader promised him there would be knives, axes, and fire at the camp, knowing that Jackson loves all three of those things.  Still he resisted and would not budge.  Finally, an hour before they were supposed to leave we resorted to bribery because we felt like it would be important for him to go.   He still didn't want to do it.  Then his friend Brody called and told him he would pull an all-nighter with him.  For whatever reason, that changed his mind and we rushed off to the store to buy him his supplies so that he wouldn't back out again.   He made it through the night, and even fell asleep for a few hours.  We were proud of him for stic...

Last week Mike and I went to the North Shore in Hawaii to spend time with my parents who are renting a condo over there for 6 weeks.  It was so relaxing, and so worth the 10 hour plane ride.  We got to spend a day with my nephews, Morgan and Taylor,  too which was fun.  We didn't do a lot of touristy activities this trip, just basically beach, pool, tennis, golf, relaxing and of course eating. We did have a few encounters with some interesting people, like John Locke from Lost and the half-naked lady on the side of the road, and who can forget Satan from the temple movie (Michael Ballam). Paige watched the kids all week long for us.  She said that she actually enjoyed being in charge and being the mom.  Paige also got asked to Prom while we were gone and took the SAT for a second time.  Those were both stresses she was feeling.  She seems a lot more relaxed this ...

I'm not sure why my first mammogram felt like some kind of a milestone for me, but it did.  I think it officially screamed at me "you are 40 and you have to start getting old people tests done now!"  I was so prepared for a tortured experience, but came away thinking I could handle this once a year.  It felt like a breeze (or maybe a better term is a "squeeze") compared to child birth or IUD implantations.  Plus, an extra perk is I know a radiologist that gets me my results quick.
