Scout Camp

Jackson fears few things in life.  But one thing he hates is sleeping away from home or being the last one to fall asleep.  So needless to say, when his first over-night scout camp came around he protested and told us there was no way he was going. We talked about it for days. His scout  leader promised him there would be knives, axes, and fire at the camp, knowing that Jackson loves all three of those things.  Still he resisted and would not budge.  Finally, an hour before they were supposed to leave we resorted to bribery because we felt like it would be important for him to go.   He still didn't want to do it.  Then his friend Brody called and told him he would pull an all-nighter with him.  For whatever reason, that changed his mind and we rushed off to the store to buy him his supplies so that he wouldn't back out again.
He made it through the night, and even fell asleep for a few hours.  We were proud of him for sticking it out and hope this taught him that life is about overcoming challenges and not letting our fears stop us from living life to the fullest.

And to think he would have missed out on wielding an axe . . .
