16 Years!!

We celebrated our 16th Wedding Anniversary on the 2nd of Sept. and had a little get away to a place called Callaway Gardens that is only about a half hour from our house. It is the coolest place. They have so many things to do there for free since we are military, and it is really beautiful. We left the kids with two 18 year old girls in our ward, so they had just as much fun as we did.
This is called the Balloon Glow. We happened to be there over Labor Day Weekend when they have their hot air balloon festival. The night before they launch all of the balloons , they light them up around the lake. It was a pretty sight.

This is a forest they've named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt because he died near here in his "little white house" that he lived in after serving as President.
One of our favorite things to do is rent bikes and ride. They have trails that go all over the gardens , lake, and golf course. It was so fun. This day was especially good for Mike because the bikes were free! (The military is worth it sometimes)
This was the villa we stayed in. It wasn't as nice as they made it look on the internet, but the Lodge was full, so we had to stay there. It was big, but outdated and we could hear our neighbors pretty well. This would have been perfect if we had our kids. Next time we will definitely stay in the lodge.
The golf course is one that has been used in the Buick Open Golf Tournament.
Another view of the course.
They have a butterfly sanctuary there. It reminded me of the one at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. Here the butterflies are snacking on some fruit. I was amazed at how well they look like leaves until they open their wings.
The problem with getting the free military bikes is they give you the oldest ones they have. Mike ended up putting the chain back on probably 10 times, but he never stopped smiling about the price.

  2. That's sounds very fun! We just had our 16th as well, but it wasn't quite as eventful. :) I love the hot air balloons picture. Too bad about the chain coming off so many times, but at least it was worth it...
