A Full Saturday--Temple and Circus

This last weekend we woke up early in the morning and drove to Birmingham, AL to go to the temple. The drive is around 3 hours each way. We had really missed driving since our move out here (ha ha) and wanted to spend some quality time with the kids.:) Actually it wasn't too bad of a drive and the kids did pretty well. No one had a melt-down or asked "Are we there yet?" even once. We can't go to the Atlanta Temple, which is only about an hour and a half, because they are remodeling it for 18 months, so Birmingham is the next closest temple. We couldn't believe how small it was when we first pulled up. But once inside it doesn't really matter which temple you are in because they all are beautiful and peaceful. I think we appreciated being there because we really had to plan for it and prepare for the trip. McKell probably didn't enjoy her time as much sitting at the Stake Center for two hours tending Jackson and Syd (Paige stayed behind for dance). Apparently Jackson decided it would be fun to go in the chapel and have a little fun with the mic which was on throughout the whole church. (Will he ever learn???) She was sure relieved to finally see us.

After we got back we picked up Paige and headed to the circus to celebrate Sydney's birthday. I haven't been since I was 9 or 10 and Mike and the kids have never been. The tight rope walker almost fell while he was jumping rope and there was no net. The kids were sure nervous to watch any of the stunts after that, but I think they had a lot of fun and will always remember it. We were all exhausted by the time we got home around 10:30.
Some of the clowns on the way out.
McKell and Paige enjoying the show.

Jackson on the run again. He does not like his picture taken (or maybe he just wants to irritate his mother.)
Sydney with the circus behind.
The floor where most of the tricks took place.
The motorcylists riding in the ball was Jackson's favorite part. He just kept screaming and cheering throughout the whole ordeal. It was pretty funny.

The Birmingham, Alabama Temple
The Stake Center right next to it almost looks bigger.

  1. If you have to travel that far, you ought to just come to Nashville and we could meet you there. The Nashville temple is a small one also...looks very similar, and there are lots of good restaurants closeby. Whatda say? We only have a short hour commute. Too bad you didn't come to Clarksville. :) J/J It is too bad that Atlanta is closed for that long!
The circus sounds fun...I've been once, but I don't think Eric and the kids have ever gone.
