There is a product sold at some boy scout stores, that you can iron on the patches with a fabric. It is specific for scout uniforms. It has lasted two years for me so far. Take it for what it's worth.
Sewing? Pish posh. There's fabric glue and the above mentioned sewing magic that you can purchase at scout stores. Those darn scout shirts . . . they could drive a good woman mad!
I found hot glue works pretty well for awhile. :)
