Cracked Pots

This past Sunday our girls had their yearly New Beginnings young women program at church which is always very spiritual and uplifting.  Paige was one of the speakers and told a great analogy about how we are all like cracked water pots that seem to have flaws, but in reality our cracks allow the water to fall on the flowers (other human beings) along the road of life and nourish them.  She emphasized the individual worth each person possesses no matter how many flaws they think they may have.

Several other girls spoke about the remaining values and performed some beautiful, musical numbers on the cello and with voice.  The last girl to share with us was Nagee Hestor who is not a member of the church, but she loves coming and wants to be baptized when she is a little older and her mom allows it.  She is African American, comes from a poor family, and is full of the spirit of Christ. She stood and announced she would be singing Dynamite, by Taio Cruz.  It was very awkward in the room, especially, after all of the reverent songs we had just heard.  I can honestly say I have never had anything like that happen before in church, but it was a good lesson to all of us that she was offering the best she knew.  (Luckily she gave us the edited version) She felt happy sharing her talent and that was all that mattered at that moment.  Our young women's president handled the whole uncomfortable situation beautifully. When Nagee finished she winked at her and told her she had done a beautiful job. Then the bishop mentioned her "rocking the world" and eased some tension in the room.  We talked on the way home about how memorable the night was and it made me thankful that the water from Nagee's cracked pot had nourished us all in a new way. Also I felt proud of our Christ-like  leaders who  accepted her offering and loved her unconditionally.

  3. Wow, I bet that was a bit surprising! :) I am so glad she got to share what she knew though and wasn't judged for it. I had to chuckle since we are in the process of planning our YW in Excellence right now. I am back in YW again. :)
