Things To Remember
Working in the RS has taught me a lot of lessons. It's true that "charity never faileth" but it's also true that giving and serving without boundaries will surely burn someone out quickly. One of my favorite scriptures lately is it is not required that I run faster than I have strength. I think that means both emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Also, when I try to do everything myself and fix everyone else's problems, I deny blessings of service and growth to others.
Transportation is one of the biggest challenges we have in our ward, and because I am at home during the day and have the means to take people places I am called on a lot to drive people around. Sometimes though it becomes too much and my own family can suffer. This last week I helped a sister twice with transportation needs and the next morning she called again saying she had an emergency (everything is always an emergency) in an hour and needed to be somewhere. I had promised myself I would exercise that morning because I had put it off so many other days doing RS work, so I told her I had an appointment (which I did with myself) and I would be unable to help.
All day I wondered if I made the right decision, and started feeling guilty, as we women are more prone to do. But as I went in to Paige's school to check her out I glanced up and noticed this quote:
LACK OF PREPARATION ON YOUR PART DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PARTI felt like it was an answer from above telling me to let go of the guilt and let this sister handle some of her own problems. I realized that by rescuing her every time I was not teaching her to be prepared and that lesson is one she needs to learn. When I talked to her Sunday she said she was able to find a ride with someone else that lives right in her apartment complex, (I live 20 min. away) and they may be able to help her in the future.
And yesterday I passed by this sign:
ENOUGH SAID!!
Your post is so true. I also like that quote! I run into that a lot at work. I review people's work, and when it comes to me I always get a call or an email about how this case is SO OLD and can I review it RIGHT NOW? Well, I had it for 10 minutes but they had it for over 100 days. My answer is always that I'll get to it in turn. Your case is not more important than anyone else's just because you did not take timely action. It's a good lesson for all of us to learn.
