Body and Soul

Paige has been dealing with an eating disorder for the past few years and she is now on her road to recovery from it.  She has been doing a lot of self reflection lately and inner work and finally feels ready to share her experience with other people.  It has been the hardest thing she has ever done and it has also been really difficult for our whole family too.  But through this experience we are learning how to communicate better and how to love each other in new ways.

One of the books she has been working out of encouraged her to write a letter to her body from her soul.  I thought she did a beautiful job and asked her if I could share it for our family blog book and she agreed.

A Letter to Body From Soul:

Dear Body,

You are a beautiful creation from Heavenly Father.  You may not look just like those other girls at ballet but it DOESN’T MATTER!  You are unique and beautiful in your own way.  The fact that your body is able to run and jump and leap should be enough. Also, the person you are on the inside is far more important than what is seen on the outside.  People like you for your personality which doesn’t shine through when you’re worried about food.  Just be yourself and focus on making the inside just as beautiful and magnificent as you are outside.

It’s important that you take care of your soul instead of only thinking about the body housing it.  Life isn’t worth living if your main goal is to lose weight and look good.  Just enjoy life! Love the person you are for just being you!  You’ll be much happier that way.  Focus on others more than you focus on yourself.  Be kind to yourself.  Treat your spirit the way you would treat a best friend.

There will be days that you want to critique your body.  You may feel fat at times.  It’s in these moments that you need to take a step back and remember that your body isn’t you.  You are more than “that really skinny girl.”  You are smart, strong and loving.  You have the potential to do great things.  It’s about time you stop tearing yourself apart.  It’s time to start rebuilding your life.  It’s time to be happy and healthy.  It’s time to say goodbye to ED (eating disorder) for good.

Love,

 Your Soul
