Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway!
We had New Beginnings a week ago and honored three of our Laurels who earned their YW Medallion. Paige was one of them. They each presented one of the 10 hour projects they had completed and shared their testimony. Paige chose to learn to play "I Know My Father Lives" on the piano and then performed it in front of everyone. This was very difficult for her to do for several reasons:
1) She hasn't taken a piano lesson since Rozanne Bass was her teacher back in Washington almost 5 years ago.
2) Her last memory of playing the piano in front of other people was when she forgot her song during her last piano recital--which devastated her.
3) She is a perfectionist and hates to make mistakes.
She practiced every day and knew her song perfectly, but as New Beginnings approached she started to have some serious anxiety. She wanted to back out but I reminded her that this was something she needed to do. She stood and told everyone she was going to play her song and that she might make a mistake but hoped that everyone would understand this was hard for her. We were never more proud of her as she played her song and bore her testimony. She did make a few minor mistakes (which she hadn't made while practicing alone) and that was the beauty of it. She felt the fear and did it anyway.
NICE JOB PAIGE!!! That's what it's all about, doing it despite your fear! So proud of you!!
