Cats + Tuna = Stitches
.

2 days after we arrived home we noticed two stray cats in the backyard roaming around. The kids immediately and secretly "adopted" them. They proceeded to provide a bowl of milk and can of tuna for the cats (which we have since found out really can make cats sick). Sydney accidentally stepped on the empty tuna can with her bare feet and cut two of her toes all the way to her tendon. (I have a picture for proof, but decided it was a little gross for the blog.) Luckily our neighbor, Chris Hills, is a surgeon so he came over and assessed the situation and told me we needed to go get stitches. He drove with us down to the hospital and stitched her up in one of his rooms so we didn't have to wait in the ER, which was so nice. Sydney screamed pretty hard when he numbed her up and she doesn't want anyone noticing she's hurt or looking at the stitches. She says it embarrasses her. I felt so sad for her, but we got her fixed up and headed home.
The kids called and said the cats had "accidentally" gotten inside the house and one was on the couch and would not get off. (Mckell informed me later Jackson actually invited them inside) They also said they had done some research and thought she was pregnant. I did not want newborn kittens born in the house so I told them to move the couch outside until I got home. Luckily nothing happened and the cat was gone in the morning, but it really irritated me when I found another empty tuna can next to the couch. The kids were really sweet to Syd when she got home. They had cleaned her room, given her presents, and made her a banner. None of the kids have ever had stitches before. Of course it would happen while their dad is away. Hopefully that is the last injury, cat, or tuna can I see for a long while!

Poor Sydney! I am glad you had a great neighbor to help out. I have to say I do not like cats. If the girls let a cat in my house I would probably scream my head off! Good thing we have Winston to scare cats away. I hope you don't get a litter of kitties soon. Feel better Sydney!
ReplyDeletePoor Baby! Thats pretty amazing you've made it so long with 4 kids never having stitches. Thank goodness for a great neighbor. ER's are the worst! Hope she feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteTHe picture of that cat on your couch made me gag..... LOL
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks like it was a pretty nasty cut. I'm glad your neighbor could help. For a minute I thought you got a pet. And look how sweet your kids were when Sydney got home. I think you said on my blog when Jarem got hurt that your kids would never do that... :) You just never know.
