We Finally Made it to Georgia
When we first got to Georgia we went to Deno and Melissa's house near Atlanta and stayed with their kids for a couple days since they were both out of town. Sunday night we finally made it to Columbus and our new house. It turned out very beautiful and luckily we liked the kitchen cabinets that we had not liked online. Seeing things in person always helps. The only disappointing thing was that we realized they were building our same house next door. They changed the brick and stone slightly and the driveway, but it is pretty similar. Oh well, there is nothing we can do about it now. We have a lot more space and after being in the car for so many days and living out of a suitcase it felt like heaven to spread out. I will post some pictures of the house once I get things put away and we are a bit more settled.
The kids started back to school on Aug. 6, so their summer was extremely short. Luckily it was packed with lots of fun and activities.
Sydney got into the all-day preschool program at the elementary school. (It's basically what kindergarten used to be) Apparently only 10% who apply get into it, so we were very lucky. I wasn't sure at first if she could handle all day after only being in two days a week last year, but she is loving it. The first day was hard for her because she gets separation anxiety more than any of the other kids ever did. She wanted me to take her the first day. When we got into the classroom she didn't want me to leave. After awhile she realized that no other parents were still there so she came and whispered in my ear "I think it's time for you to go" and with big tears in her eyes she sent me on my way. She wiped her tears away, composed herself and went and sat on the mat. Then as I walked out of the school I shed a few tears knowing how hard it was for her to let me go, but within minutes the tears became tears of joy knowing that I had some new found freedom!

Look at you - that was quite the update! Glad that you are there and had fun along the way. Good luck in your new home, oh, and lucky you for being alone all day!
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the update! Way to go! I'm glad you got inspired by my book. :) I'm a little jealous about Syd being gone all day, however, I opted to keep Jarem home this year because I'm not quite ready to let him go...
ReplyDeleteIt is bittersweet when the last one goes. I remember all the big tears Gabby had in kindergarten. And I have to admit I had some, too. I love that you are blogging so we can keep up with your family. We miss you. Corey is sad that Paige will not be there when she heads back to school. I'm glad that school is going well for Paige (so Corey tells me).
ReplyDeleteI love that Sydney told you that it was time for you to go. That is so stinkin cute! Even though it's kinda sad, it must feel good to have some time for yourself! Paige and Mckell are beautiful girls and Paige is really looking a lot like you!! Love you Nikki!
ReplyDeleteWe had lots of fun looking at your blog and reading about all that you have been doing. Nikki, you have inspired me. I gave up scrapbooking long ago because it takes too much time but i think this is a great way to preserve your memories. By the way I love the family picture at the top...:) I'm quite proud of how it turned out, all of you look great! Love you guys, someday we hope to take a trip out to georgia and visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update! It is great to see the pics. I love how Jackson runs away from the camera. I am glad you have some peace and quiet. Keep the updates coming. Miss you guys.
